Summarize

28 years ago, on 14 October 1991, Latvia joined United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. As per UNESCO National Commission for Latvia “UNESCO is the only UN Agency to have a global network of national cooperating bodies known as National Commissions for UNESCO. National Commissions are set up by their respective governments for the purpose of associating their governmental and non-governmental bodies in education, sciences, culture and communication with the work of the Organization.” (http://unesco.lv/en/unesco-in-latvia/unesco-in-latvia-1/ )

The UNESCO week takes place annually on the first or second week of October in Latvia from 2011. During the UNESCO weeks the National Commission for Latvia invites everybody to cooperate and work together on the ideas and values of UNESCO. This year the UNESCO week is dedicated to women in science and scientific dynasties. It is possible to get acquainted with the UNESCO week’s full programme here: http://unesco.lv/lv/zinatne/sonedel-aicina-meklet-stastus-par-latvijas-zinatniecem-un-zinatnieku-dinastijam/ (in Latvian)
