On 21 January 2019, Latvia fulfilled the terms of the UNESCO 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property and deposited its instrument of ratification with the Director-General. In accordance with the terms of Article 21, the Convention will enter into force with respect to Latvia three months after the deposit of the instrument of ratification, that is to say on 21 April 2019.
Following the ratification of the UNESCO 1970 Convention Latvia deposited the instrument of accession to the UNIDROIT 1995 Convention with the Italian Government, Depositary of the Convention, on 8 February 2019. In accordance with the terms of Article 12, the Convention will enter into force with respect to Latvia on the first day of the sixth month following the date of deposit of the fifth instrument of ratification, that is to say on 1 August 2019.
