Summarize

ArtLaw.club founder, PhD iur.candidate Irina Olevska-Kairisa has been invited to UNESCO to speak about the criminalization of damage to—and destruction of—cultural heritage objects across European jurisdictions. An inspiring moment to contribute to the discussions marking 70 years of protecting heritage in danger.

The event, organized by the Commission Nationale Française pour l’UNESCO with UNESCO, the French Ministry of Culture, and AFNU, brought together experts, practitioners, and policymakers to reflect on decades of international cooperation under the 1954 Hague Convention. Speakers highlighted the increasing pressures on cultural heritage—from conflicts and natural disasters to climate change.

Irina joined the panel on “Les atteintes au patrimoine: responsabilité des États et enjeux de vocabulaire”, exploring legal responsibilities and evolving concepts in heritage protection. The launch of the forthcoming Dictionnaire comparé du droit du patrimoine culturel (CNRS, 2025) was another highlight, offering valuable comparative insights across Europe.
